International architectural firm chosen to design new Sarasota Performing Arts Center
Jun 6, 2023
The city of Sarasota and the Sarasota Performing Arts Center Foundation have selected Renzo Piano Building Workshop as the top choice to design a new performing arts center on Sarasota Bay. The international architectural firm, known for its iconic buildings such as the Whitney Museum in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris, was chosen over Foster + Partners and Snøhetta. Although Foster + Partners was the second choice, they may still be selected if a contract agreement cannot be reached with Renzo Piano. The committee members expressed their admiration for all three finalists and emphasized the extraordinary opportunity it is for Sarasota to have such a renowned architect involved in the project. The decision was not based on specific design ideas but on the firms' history, staff, and capabilities. Once a contract is finalized, the design process will commence, with the Paratus Group serving as the project management firm.
